TITLE: Quilt of Names DIRECTOR: Susannah Cox Maddux & Jerome A. Gratigny TRT: 13:46 COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: United States (Macon Made) SYNOPSIS: Quilt of Namestells the story of Macon-based textile artist Wini McQueen’s “Quilt of Names,” honoring the millions of African people who lost their family names in The Transatlantic Slave Trade between 1619 and 1865. After the Mount Willing (Lowndes County), Alabama Quilters commissioned her to create a quilt about names, Wini’s conscience was stirred to create work to enlighten her Macon, Georgia community, after the honor of working with a group who were at the forefront of a movement to document loss that people of African descent experienced as a result of slavery. The film features Wini’s experience and the role her family played in understanding family and community history, culminating with her participation in an African naming ceremony. In October 2025, the quilt debuted at Oak Ridge Cemetery, the mostly unmarked burial space set aside for African people within the elegant rolling hills and marbled markers of white citizens of Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon. TITLE: Miracles: The Redd Family Collection of Black Art DIRECTOR: Mikael Owunna, Marques Redd TRT: 47:55 COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: United States (Georgia Made) SYNOPSIS: In 1990, Melgenia and Vernon Redd opened a gallery called Miracles Fine Art, and it was the first institution of its kind in Macon, GA, that specialized in exhibiting the work of Black artists. Inspired by an activist passion forged in an era that saw the end of Jim Crow, they were determined to contribute to the preservation and celebration of Black art and culture. Over time, they built a collection of over 800 items, including paintings, sculptures, masks, mixed media works, and woven fabrics. In 1996, the gallery was closed due to health challenges. The entire collection was subsequently moved to storage. This documentary explores the history of the collection and its revival in the 2020s by their children Marques Redd and Marquita Sams.
